Convert a single PNG to a GIF, or drop a numbered sequence (frame-001.png, frame-002.png …) exported from Aseprite, After Effects, Blender or Procreate to assemble an animation. Files are sorted by name automatically.

PNG to GIF in three steps
01▸
Drop one PNG or a whole numbered sequence.
02▸
Check the order and delay; keep the background transparent or pick a colour.
03▸
Make the GIF.
Transparency
PNG supports 256 levels of transparency per pixel; GIF supports exactly two — fully visible or fully clear. GifCraft keeps pixels that are more than half opaque and clears the rest. Semi-transparent edges (anti-aliasing, shadows) turn hard, so for a clean edge on a known background, set that background colour instead of transparent.
Pixel art
For sprites, turn dithering off, set colours to the number your palette actually uses, and export at an exact multiple of the original size so pixels stay square.
Explainer: why GIFs band — the 256-colour palette
Every GIF frame can use at most 256 colours, picked from 16.7 million. The encoder has to choose which ones and snap every pixel to its nearest pick. Drag the slider and watch a gradient sky fall apart into stripes, then switch on dithering to see how scattered pixels fake the missing shades — at a cost in file size.
Original (full colour)As a GIF: 16 colours
… for this one frame
What to take away: 64–128 colours is usually indistinguishable for cartoons, UI and screen recordings. Photos with skies or skin need 256 and sometimes dithering. Dithering adds pixel noise, which LZW compression hates, so the file grows.
Questions
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. GifCraft decodes and encodes everything inside your browser tab using the canvas and WebCodecs APIs. Your file never leaves your device, which is also why there is no sign-up and no watermark.
Will my PNG lose quality?
Only if it has more than 256 colours. Photos lose some smoothness in gradients (enable dithering to hide banding); logos, icons and pixel art usually convert without visible change.
