Instagram does not accept GIF files in posts, Reels or Stories, so the way to post a GIF is as a short looping video. Drop a GIF, clip or photos and GifCraft exports a 1080 px MP4 at 4:5 for the feed or 9:16 for Stories.

Why Instagram needs MP4
Instagram’s uploader takes photos and videos only. A silent MP4 that repeats the loop a few times plays like a GIF in the feed and is far sharper and smaller than the GIF. Instagram plays short videos on repeat in the feed, so a two-to-six second clip behaves like a GIF. Very short loops can feel abrupt; Boomerang under Speed & loop doubles the length smoothly.
GIF stickers in Stories
The GIF sticker in Instagram Stories searches GIPHY, not your camera roll. To use your own animation in a Story, post the MP4 from here as the Story itself, or upload your GIF to a GIPHY channel (only verified channels appear in sticker search).
Questions
Is anything uploaded?
No. All processing happens in your browser tab. Your files never leave your device.

1080 pixels wide: 1080×1350 (4:5) for feed posts and 1080×1920 (9:16) for Stories and Reels.
Can I add a GIF to my Instagram Story?
Use the GIF sticker to pick from GIPHY’s library, or post your own animation as the Story itself by exporting it here as a 9:16 MP4.
