Drop a GIF and the background colour is picked from its corners automatically, then removed on every frame. Only background connected to the edges is cleared, so matching colours inside your subject stay. Works best on solid backgrounds and green screens.

GIF background remover in three steps
01▸
Drop the GIF, sticker or green-screen video. The background colour is detected.
02▸
Check the checkerboard preview; tap the background to re-pick or move Tolerance.
03▸
Make the transparent GIF and download it.
How the background is removed
GifCraft reads the colour in the four corners of the first frame and treats it as the background. On each frame it then flood-fills inward from the edges, clearing every connected pixel within your tolerance of that colour. A white shirt on a white background survives if it is enclosed by your subject; switch to “Everywhere” if you also want holes inside the subject cleared (for example the gap inside a letter O).
What colour-keying can and cannot do
It is ideal for stickers, logos, emoji on flat backgrounds and chroma-key footage. It cannot cut a person out of a busy real-world background: that needs a segmentation model, and GIF’s on/off transparency would still leave jagged edges. For those cases, record against a plain wall or a green sheet.
Transparent GIF vs. transparent WebP
GIF transparency is binary: a pixel is either fully visible or fully clear, so soft edges get a fringe. Animated WebP (in the Format panel) keeps partial transparency and full colour, which looks cleaner on websites. Discord, Slack and most chat apps still expect GIF.
Questions
Is anything uploaded?
No. All processing happens in your browser tab. Your files never leave your device.
How do I make a GIF background transparent?
Drop the GIF here. GifCraft picks the background colour from the corners and removes it on every frame; the checkerboard shows what is now transparent. Download it with Make GIF.
Why is there a fringe around my subject?
Edge pixels are a blend of subject and background. Raise the tolerance a little, or, if you know where the GIF will be shown, switch the export to WebP, which supports soft edges.
Part of my subject disappeared. What happened?
That area touches the edge and is close to the background colour. Lower the tolerance, or crop the GIF so the subject does not touch the border.
Can it remove a busy or photographic background?
No. Colour keying needs a solid or near-solid background. Photographic backgrounds need AI segmentation, which GifCraft does not run on your files because they never leave your device.
