  3. Make the GIF, then upload it in Server Settings → Emoji.

Discord emoji rules

Emoji files can be up to 256 KB and Discord displays them at up to 128×128 pixels (much smaller inline in chat). PNG, JPG and GIF are accepted; a GIF becomes an animated emoji. Anyone with the Manage Expressions permission can add emoji to a server; using animated emoji, or any emoji outside its own server, needs Nitro. Server boost level decides how many emoji slots a server has. Source: Discord Help Center.

Make it readable at chat size

In a message an emoji is only about 22–48 pixels tall. Crop tight, keep one bold subject, and avoid text. A one-to-two second loop with 10–15 fps is plenty and keeps the file small enough to keep more colours.

Questions

Is anything uploaded?

No. All processing happens in your browser tab. Your files never leave your device.

What size should a Discord emoji be?

128×128 pixels and under 256 KB. GifCraft’s Discord emoji preset sets both and reduces colours, width or frames until it fits.

How do I add the emoji to my server?

Open Server Settings → Emoji → Upload Emoji and pick the downloaded GIF. You need the Manage Expressions permission.

Can I make a transparent emote?

Yes, if the background is a flat colour. Open the Background panel, tap the background in the preview and it is removed on every frame.

What about stickers?

Discord stickers are 320×320 and up to 512 KB. Choose the Discord sticker preset in Size & presets.
