MOV to GIF

MOV is Apple’s QuickTime container: it is what iPhones, Mac screen recordings and QuickTime Player save. Drop one in and GifCraft converts the part you need into a GIF, entirely on your device.

MOV to GIF in three steps

  1. Drop a .mov file (iPhone clip or screen recording).

  2. Trim and crop — screen recordings often need cropping to one window.

  3. Make the GIF and download.

iPhone HEVC videos

Newer iPhones record MOV files in HEVC (H.265). Safari plays these everywhere; Chrome and Edge play them when the computer has HEVC hardware decoding. If your MOV will not open, change Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible, or AirDrop it to a Mac and open it in Safari.

Screen recordings to GIF

For product demos and bug reports, crop to the window, use 8–10 fps (UI motion does not need more) and fewer colours — flat interfaces compress superbly with 32–64 colours.

Questions

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. GifCraft decodes and encodes everything inside your browser tab using the canvas and WebCodecs APIs. Your file never leaves your device, which is also why there is no sign-up and no watermark.

Why is my Mac screen recording so large as a GIF?

Retina recordings are 2× resolution. Set the width to 800 px or less and the fps to 8–10; a 10-second UI demo usually fits in 1–3 MB.
